Professional Development Workshop Series Presents:
Cultural Considerations in the Suicide Risk Assessment
of Racially and Ethnically Minoritized Youth

Drawing on peer-reviewed literature, this workshop examines suicide risk factors and presenting signs that may be unique to youth of color, then translates that knowledge into culturally responsive assessment strategies. Participants will engage with relevant cultural and intersectional theories to strengthen their conceptualization of suicidal behavior and will review assessment instruments and tools with demonstrated psychometric and practical promise for use with youth of color.
Objectives:
1. Identify three suicide risk factors unique to youth of color.
2. Identify the core tenets of relevant theories related to suicidal behaviors in youth of color.
3. Identify three culturally responsive suicide risk assessment strategies relevant to working with youth of color.
4. Identify three suicide-risk assessment instruments and tools relevant to working with youth of color
