Implementation of Organizational Skills Training

in Elementary Schools

Presented by Dr. Jennifer Mautone

Organization, time management, and planning skills are essential to academic success, yet many students struggle to develop them as school demands increase. This presentation examines Organizational Skills Training–Tier 2 (OST T2), a school-based intervention for students in grades 3–5 with these difficulties. Findings from a cluster randomized trial across 22 elementary schools showed that OST-T2 reduced organizational and homework problems when delivered by school staff under authentic practice conditions. The presentation will review the study outcomes and factors supporting successful implementation.

Objectives:

1. To understand components of effective organizational skills training for elementary school students.

2. To consider factors that facilitate school staff member implementation of the Organizational Skills Training, Tier 2

(OST-T2) program in a range of elementary schools.

3. To learn about outcomes of a cluster randomized trial evaluating OST-T2 in elementary schools.
