Through MTSS

Dr. Sharon Lohrman

Positive Behavior Support in Schools (NJ PBSIS) is a partnership between the New Jersey Office of Special Education and the Boggs Center on Human Development at Rutgers University. Since 2003, PBSIS has served as the designated state project to provide comprehensive professional development to support school and district personnel to plan interventions for social, emotional, and behavior (SEB) health using a Multi-Tier System of Support (MTSS). Drawing on 23 years of capacity building efforts in New Jersey schools, this session will provide participants with foundational knowledge for designing and implementing MTSS to address the spectrum of student SEB health needs. Session content will weave together key research, school implementation examples, data profiles, and Implementation Science features to illustrate the mindset, fidelity, and investment needed to realize MTSS. Information about publicly available tools and resources participants can access for use in their own work will be shared.

Objectives:

  1. Give examples of implementation features at each tier that address SEB health.
  2. Apply session content to reflect on existing school or district level efforts to address SEB health through an alignment lens.
  3. Access publicly available tools and resources offered to support implementation efforts and next steps.
