WHERE THE TREATMENT OF AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDER AND COMPASSIONATE CARE MEET

This session will look at children who have Autism Spectrum Disorder accompanied by a secondary mental health diagnosis. A focus will be placed upon understanding the issues associated with this and how to apply the principles of ABA to improve their school experience.

Objectives:

1) Identify the overlap between mental health services and ABA therapy

2) Formulate a strong understanding of how compassionate care in the ABA field, in conjunction with evidence-based interventions, can be utilized within a school-based setting

3) Differentiate between assent-driven ABA practices vs. traditional ABA practices and how to assess for assent and assent-withdrawal
