Intimate Partner Violence: Considerations for School Psychologists

and Counselors

This session will provide a description of how IPV perpetrators differ from other diagnostic categories, review related assessments, explain the benefit of allies for victims of IPV, show how domestic violence generally affects children developmentally, and how school psychologists can help to prevent this.


Objectives:

1) Delineate the prevalence, precursors, dimensions, and risks of intimate partner violence

2) Respond to the needs of children experiencing intimate partner violence in their families

3) Serve as allies and conduits to safety for survivors of intimate partner violence
