Admissions Testing Administrator Job Description

The Peck School, an independent, coed, K-8 elementary school located in Morristown, NJ, seeks a part-time Admissions Testing Administrator to conduct individual screenings to student applicants for grades K-2. 

The Admissions Testing Administrator will work alongside 3 members of Peck’s Admissions Team to recruit, admit, and enroll qualified students who come from families that share the core values of the school.  The administrator will specifically play an important role in projecting each applicant’s academic, social, and emotional readiness for Peck.  The administrator will conduct individual screenings to children applying to grades K-2.  Upon completion of the screening, he/she will interpret the results and report current achievement and future potential to the appropriate Admissions Committee.  This role is an excellent opportunity for an experienced early elementary educator who understands pedagogy, child development, a range of teaching methods, and varied learning styles.  The proctor should have an understanding of the progressive acquisition of preschool and early elementary academic skills, as well as age appropriate behaviors.  He/she should be personable, warm, patient, flexible, and a good communicator.  The administrator should have the ability to develop a quick, positive rapport with children, in addition to the capability of providing a high touchpoint experience for prospective parents.  Former experience as a classroom teacher, reading specialist, learning consultant, and/or licensed psychologist is required.

Qualifications & Competencies:

  • Bachelor’s degree or greater

  • Ability to connect with young children and evaluate overall developmental performance/readiness (social, emotional, academic)

  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills 

  • Ability to work independently and self motivate, as well as serve as a contributing, collaborative member of a larger team

  • Strong communication skills

  • Ability to embody Peck’s mission and core values when interacting with internal and external community members 

  • Experience with assessments that measure academic achievement and cognitive abilities is preferred, such as Woodcock-Johnson, DIBELS/Acadience Reading, etc.

  • Orton Gillingham training is preferred

  • Former experience as a classroom teacher, reading specialist, learning consultant, and/or licensed psychologist is required

Responsibilities: 

  • Administer individual screenings to applicants for grades K-2

  • Assess, interpret, and summarize each applicant’s academic achievement and future potential; project readiness for program

  • Report applicant screening results to appropriate Admissions Committees

  • Serve on the Kindergarten and Lower School Admissions Committees

  • Maintain strict confidentiality in all aspects of admissions related work (ie. applicant screening results, family information, office matters, admissions decisions, etc.); ensure absolute discretion and professionalism 

  • Provide a safe, well supervised environment for student screenings

  • Attend Kindergarten Playgroups as needed 

  • Attend school related meetings/events as needed

  • Other duties as assigned

Part Time Details:

  • Screening season begins in November and runs through February

  • Screenings take place on designated weekday mornings (between the hours of 8:30am – noon); 3 days per week

  • Occasional screenings will need to be conducted in March-June; to be scheduled as needed

  • Attendance at ~10 admissions committee meetings between December-February is required
